Obesity

How to Combat Obesity

Obesity is defined as being overweight to the point that it causes medical problems. "Obesity is a complex disease involving having too much body fat." (Obesity - Symptoms and Causes, n.d.). Being obese can cause diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, joint pain, and several other medical issues. As stated before obesity is very complex and can be caused by several factors. The best results when combating obesity have come from slow subtle changes in lifestyle. People who jump right into "super healthy" diets have a higher rate of burn out on their diets. Trend diets are also harmful, the best information we have for dieting is to eat a diverse diet with high quality food and controlling your portions. Making lifestyle changes and gradually losing weight may be a better solution in the long run. "Most people who lose a large amount of weight have regained it 2 to 3 years later." (Maintaining Weight Loss, 2024). Some people require more invasive methods due to their circumstances.
